Other than the male soldiers, the US had funded new schools throughout the region of Laos, which opened opportunities for Hmong females to help out with the war. The CIA then trained the Hmong soldiers to fight for them in the war as their main ground troops against the North Vietnamese. Of the 300,000 Hmong people living in Laos, more than 19,000 men were recruited by the CIA to deal with the struggles of the jungle, since the Hmong were more aware of the terrain of Vietnam. With nothing left to do, the CIA decided to turn to the Hmong people for help during the Vietnam War against the communists. Due to the terrain of Vietnam being a jungle, the United States was having a hard time preventing China and the Soviet Union from sending in weapons to arm the North Vietnamese against the South Vietnamese. After the French had lost their power over Vietnam, there was a power vacuum that resulted in a war. The battle between the two was mainly over political issues because of the split of Vietnam and the rise of communism as the North side of Vietnam tried to form their whole country into communism by forcefully reuniting South Vietnam with the help of the Soviet Union. The Americans feared the idea of communism and the domino effect that could take place in Asia therefore, the Americans wanted to prevent this idea by helping the South Vietnamese. The Vietnam War also known as the Second Indochina War, was a war in which two major power countries United States and Soviet Union, who were the power holders of what events were to take place in Vietnam and the neighboring countries around them.
