That has been on my mind a lot lately too, and I think Coimbatore is, in a way, that place for us, our brothers, and our families. What you said about “loving what someone you love loves” was so beautiful and I completely agree with you. I haven’t driven in any other city, but I think the homely nature of Coimbatore bleeds into the traffic culture the same way Bangalore’s chaotic nature bleeds into its streets. Even now, since I’ve taken some brush-up driving lessons just to get some more practice in, being behind the wheel and navigating the roads sheds a whole new light on this town.
When I took driving lessons for the first time last year, I realised the indescribable charm works its way into the roads and traffic too. My notes app currently has a running list of things to tell you about since my last email, and though I did tell you some things over text, I’ve saved some events for longer prose.Ĭoimbatore’s charm is as gentle as ever. I feel less like a soldier off at war, and more like a character from some Enid Blyton novel about penpals, the seaside, and some wayward adventure. The excitement with which I wait to get your email the week after I send mine is inexplicable.
